Help with these facebook tools

i sent an email to codeplex but they told me to ask here, heres the email i sent

Hi I have tried following the video and step by step guide on the Microsoft website for the facebook tools but I cant get it to work, and i cant register on here either for some reason, says there was a problem processing request, then when it does work it says my user name is already taken which i know for a fact it isn't because i am the only person ever to use it , but that isn't the issue i want to discuss.

firstly when i try and open the facebook solution in VB or C# i get errors.

this is with C# 2008 Express

i get the same with 'Solution Items' too. then i get this

when i try to run i get this

i dont know whether this has anything to do with the fact all the source stuff and binaries are in my documents folder. on the tutorial video they were in program files but i cant find any files to install they just seem to be in folders.

and when i try to build my own facebook app i follow the video carfeully and do exactly what the video does but i still cant make it work. i drag facebook service onto the form and put in my API key and secret, then drag friends list on. go to properties and in load put 'Form_Load' then i past the text from the microsoft tutorial:

friendList1.Friends = facebookService1.GetFriends();

and then i press F5 and i get this

i press yes

and i get this

i hope this makes sense, thanks

Michael

Please can anyone help me, i am a total beginner at this

Essentially, the problem is that the video was made with an older version of the toolkit, which is now incompatible with the current version. To get started, I would recommend checking out the User's Guide in the documentation that's included as part of the 2.0 release. That has some relatively small samples that should help you get up and running.

From what I can tell, it looks like you're trying to make a desktop Windows Forms app. If that's so, there are 2 files (at a minimum) from our toolkit you'll need to include as references: facebook.dll, and Microsoft.Xml.Schema.Linq.dll. They should both be included in the release you downloaded. It looks like you've already got the facebook.dll there, so just add the Microsoft one as a reference in your project just like you did with facebook.dll, and you should be good to go. Let me know if you need more detail than that, and I can help you out. You might also just want to check on msdn.microsoft.com for documentation on including references in a project, since this is a pretty common task you'll want to be familiar with if you're going to do much .NET development.

Yes i noticed that file. how do i get it in the project. i got the facebook.dll in by going to the toolbox and selectng choose items, but when i tried to put the XMLSchema file in it said it cant be added to the toolbox, where does that go?

Right-click on your project in Solution Explorer and select "Add Reference". Browse for the file, select it, and hit "Okay" or whatever button needs to be pushed at that point. That should be all that's needed.
