Photo uploading progress

Hi, Guys,

I need your help. I'm using your toolkit to build a desktop application, which is quite similar to what fireuploader does in firefox. I have a problem that I can't find a way to get some progress of the photo being uploaded to show this progress to the end-user with the progress bar. (like 69% ********------ ). Are there any ways to do this?

thanks in advance.

Such things can be done, although I'm not exactly sure how myself. You can implement many things to achieve such an effect… a quick google adventure should find you plenty of things to play with. (google “upload status bar” for example). Also would be worth checking http://www.codeproject.com/ for example code, amongst other places.

Such things often rely on asynchronous server calls to get the current upload status and then change the upload status accordingly.

Thanks, I'll try to search for what you say. But it seems to me that the Toolkit itself doesn't support such kind of things, which means that either I have to make a wrapper on the toolkit or make some internal changes to it, do I understand you correctly?

yup, as all your content is held on your servers somewhere, as opposed to by facebook, this toolkit doesnt give you any tools for that kinda thing. (as far as I'm aware). unless you're uploading photos the facebook standard photogallery, but from a desktop app?

in this case you may find answers in the api documentation here http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Photos.upload.
This might be of use too http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Photo_uploads

this toolkit just gives you access to the functionality of the api as described in the facebook dev wiki, so if you're uploading photos from your desktop to a facebook gallery (as opposed to your own servers, to then display using an app you're creating) you'll need to look see if there's a way to use FBJS to get the upload status and stuff.

Thanks, I'll check it out.
